Why A Woodland Walk Is Good For You And Your Dog
As soon as Candy (our dog) hears the word ‘woods’, she gets excited. She just can’t contain herself. We own a woodland in Hodnet, Shropshire, about 15 miles from where we live. Candy just can’t get there quickly enough. You just can’t beat a woodland walk with your dog.
If only the woodland was in our back garden! As you can see, she has her eyes on the road intently, but the best thing about this photo is her ears and back of her head; I think this is so cute.
BENEFITS OF A WOODLAND WALK
Studies show that the level of the stress hormone cortisol is lower when walking in nature. Regular exercise in woods or parks has been found to reduce the risk of poor mental health.
You’re more relaxed.
Makes you heel better after surgery rather than looking at 4 walls!
Helps you being more active.
Improves your self-esteem.
Helps you make new connections. (I’ve found people with dogs are more friendlier!)
Gives you a better complexion. (My skin always looks more refreshed after being in a woodland, must be all that extra oxygen the trees are giving out!)
Immerse yourself in nature and take in your surroundings through all five senses for better health, happiness and a sense of calm.
It takes about an hour to walk around the lovely woodland. No cars, no people just us. Bliss!
Where’s your nearest woodland? Get yourself outdoors and take a lovely peaceful stroll. It does wonders for your well-being.
