The best online course platforms for beginners
There are only three that I will mention as I have tried and tested all of them, and I only recommend the ones that are good and that I have used myself.
The first one I used and is very popular is Teachable. Teachable has everything you need to create your course. You can start your course for free (at the time of writing this post), which is helpful for people just starting out.
I started creating my course, but I didn’t find it that simple to use, so I switched to the second one I will mention below. Don’t get me wrong, Teachable is a good platform and great to use from a student’s point of view, but it wasn’t right for me.
The second teaching platform I use is Thinkific. I found this much easier to create my online course. I had the basics done within a week! My husband also uses this platform for his courses. He likes it because he can see what progress students have made, and he can also issue completion certificates at the end of the course. You can test-drive the platform here >> Thinkific online course platform.
Thirdly and what I also use is ThriveCart. The online course platform is really easy to use, a little bit more basic than the Thinkific, but it does the job. I use Thrive Cart because it has a funnel system for your products, so you can upsell and downsell to get even more income per month.
For example, you could create a free mini-course and then upsell for your main course. People are more inclined to buy when they get a freebie. The possibilities are endless. Plus, the great thing about this is there is only a one-time fee, so no monthly payments which we all need right now! I’m not sure how long that offer will last, so if you’re thinking about going forward and doing this, get it here >>ThriveCart Online Course Platform.
How to create your own course online
If you’re thinking about creating your own online course, there are a few things you’ll need to do to get started. Here’s a quick overview of what you’ll need to do:
1. Choose your topic.
The first step is to choose the topic for your course. This can be anything that you’re passionate about or have expertise in. Once you’ve chosen a topic, it’s time to start planning out your content.
2. Create an outline.
Once you know what you want to teach, it’s time to start creating an outline for your course. This will help you keep track of what topics you need to cover and in what order. It will also make the creation process a lot easier.
3. Record your videos.
The next step is to start recording your videos. This can be done with a webcam or a screen capture program like Capture by Dropbox (my favourite ) or Livestorm for FREE. If you’re not comfortable being on camera, you can also create PowerPoint presentations or use other types of media such as audio recordings.
4. Edit and upload your videos.
After recording all of your videos, it’s time to edit them and upload them to your course website. You’ll want to ensure that each video is high quality and easy to understand.
5. Create supplementary materials.
In addition to your videos, you’ll also want to create supplementary materials such as transcripts and slideshows a lot easier.
3. Record your lectures.
Once you have your outline ready, it’s time to start recording your lectures. You can do this using a webcam, screen capture software, or even just a simple audio recorder. Make sure that you’re clear and concise in your delivery so that your students can easily understand and follow along. You don’t have to record lectures. You can write all your course content, but some find it all a lot easier to record plus, you don’t have to worry about your grammar and spelling mistakes!
4. Create supplementary materials.
In addition to your lectures, you’ll also want to create some supplementary materials for your students. This could include things like quizzes, assignments, and other resources that will help them learn the material.
5. Promote your course.
Once everything is created and ready to go, it’s time to promote your course. You’ll want to make sure that people know about it and that it’s easy for them to find. The best way to do this is through online marketing (through your website or blog) and social media.
How much do I charge for my online course?
This is a difficult question to answer since it can vary so much depending on the content and length of your course and the delivery format. Some online courses can cost hundreds or even thousands of dollars, while others may be free or only a few dollars.
In general, you will likely need to charge more for a comprehensive course that includes videos, audio files, and written materials than you would for a shorter course that only includes a few videos. You may also want to consider whether you offer discounts for people who sign up for multiple courses or if you have any other type of pricing structure.
Ultimately, it is up to you to decide how much to charge for your online course. However, keep in mind that most people are willing to pay more for a course that they feel is high-quality and will offer them a lot of value. In my opinion, a course shouldn’t be less than $100.
If you are unsure about what to charge, you may want to start with a lower price and then increase it if you find that people are willing to pay more. Also, be sure to offer a money-back guarantee, so people feel confident about purchasing your course.
Conclusion
Creating your own course online can be a lot of work, but it’s also a lot of fun. If you’re passionate about your topic and you put in the effort, you’ll be able to create a successful course that will help people learn something new.
