9 Ways On How To Feel Happier This Winter
It’s cold and it’s dim outside which can also make us feel cold and dim but here are some small ways on how to feel happier this winter.
1.REFRESH YOUR WARDROBE
Have a good clear out of all the clothes you don’t want or wear anymore. My moto is if you haven’t worn it for a year, ditch it!! even if it’s new! Someone else will love it at the charity shop. Don’t just have a good clear out, organise you wardrobe and drawers as you go along.
Ok, so you’ve had your clear-out, now treat yourself to something new. Try to go for quality that lasts rather than going for the latest trends.
2. CONNECT WITH OTHERS
Fill your calendar up for the year. Organise meeting up with friends and family even if it’s just outdoors (due to the dingle dangle of covid!). You’ll feel good and they’ll feel good too as most people have been indoors too much in 2020!See what’s open e.g museums, cinema and arrange dates.
Have a group Zoom catch up and play a quiz if you can’t get out. The more you socialise, the happier you are.
3. COOK SOMETHING NEW
Get those cooking books out that haven’t seen the light of day. Choose something you fancy, buy the ingredients and get cooking. Maybe a nice hot soup to warm you up on a cold winters day.
My husband just bought me a new cookbook. I think he’s trying to say something! When you’ve made your dish, you’ll feel more productive, hence feel happier!
4. MAKE YOUR PARTNER LAUGH
Everyone loves a good giggle. Do something that will make your partner laugh even if it’s rude. Laughing is the greatest medicine!!
5. SPEND MORE TIME OUTDOORS
Because it’s grey out there doesn’t mean you have to stay in. Get your warm clothes on and go for a walk or even get in the car and drive somewhere new. Getting out should be an everyday thing. I have a dog, so I’ve no excuse to stay indoors!
6. SPRUCE UP A ROOM
There’s always room for improvement in the house so choose a room that needs a refresh. You might think gosh that’s a big job but it doesn’t have to be and there’s no rush either.
Just do it a bit by bit and take your time. During the lockdown, I revamped our kitchen, it didn’t cost much, and it looks great, and it makes you feel good because you’ve accomplished something.
7. START SAVING FOR YOU NEXT HOLIDAY
Holidays have been sparse this last year, but hopefully, we can all go on holiday soon. So start saving now, put a bit aside every month.
8. WRITE
We are so used to either texting or emailing people, why don’t you write a handwritten letter to your friends and family. Everyone loves mail through the post. My nan used to write to me at least once a month until the age of 89, and I’ve still kept them.
9. ACTS OF KINDNESS
Go out of your way and help somebody in need, whether it’s your neighbour, friend, family or volunteer work. There’s more happiness in giving than receiving.
